Wow. What a crazy 8+ weeks it's been. Initially, I was "only" supposed to be the PR and Box office manager, per my normal titles at Stone Soup - already fairly Herculean.
Then my boss got sick. Not life-threateningly so, but in a way that affected her day-to-day life and availability at the theatre. Suddenly, the Double (XX) Fest was ALL ME. I was to select the plays and running order, select the readings and running order, find folks to teach the workshops and running order, match directors with scripts, find directors for readings, help set up fest auditions, attend tps auditions, recommend actors to directors, communicate with all playwrights near and far, not to mention put up electronic listings, newspaper listings, contact all media, create visual marketing, take box office calls, etc, etc, etc. Then, I got this "community-building" hair up my craw and decided I needed to organize a big party to kick it all off. Oh, did I also mention PERFORMING in two pieces? Apparently, I am crazy. Also, I am SO glad I had some help, between Simone Barron and Margie Slovan helping me select the scripts (since at that point, I hadn't read ANY of them!), Simone helping me plan the party from the outset in begging from local businesses from party food and raffle items and then along with Persephone Vandegrift in putting things together and helping ensure it ran fairly smoothly the day of - SO GRATEFUL to y'all for your help! And of course, it couldn't have been done on the technical and production management end without my "work husband" Chris Scofield (Scofie), who took that end of it on without ever once losing his cool (which canNOT be said for me...) and always taking it in stride. Double (XX) Fest is our misshapen, many-headed hybrid child, and I am ever so proud of it. Writers came from far and near to watch their shows being produced, as did friends of cast, directors and Stone Soup. Thank you all, for making my baby, the INAUGURAL Double (XX) Fest such a rousing success!
